Old soapstone sinks are valued for their antique charm and are very durable. I have seen these sinks still serviceable after a hundred years. Note the faucet set is installed below the ‘flood rim’ of the sink which is a cross-connection between a potable water supply and the sewer system. Under unfavorable conditions, sewage can enter the drinking water pipes and contaminate the water supply serving this building.
